International airport Khanty-Mansiysk - JSC "Yugraavia"

At the end of 1934, the famous polar pilot N.I. Tselibeev was instructed to make a flight on the plane Yakovlev AIR-6 and land in Ostyako-Vogulsk due to the preparation for the first northern routes opening along the Ob and Irtysh rivers.

That time there had already been Samarovo airport of the Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route in Ostyako-Vogulsk (the old name of Khanty-Mansiysk).

About a month later (according to TASS), the first scheduled flight was made from Tyumen to Obdorsk passing through Samarovo.

The flight from Tyumen to Ostyako-Vogulsk was made on the 19th of December in 1935.

On the 27th of November in according with the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialistic Republic, the district center Khanty-Mansiysk became the city of Khanty-Mansiysk and the village Samarovo was included in that city.

In April, 12 in 1956 Samarovo Airport was renamed as Khanty-Mansiysk Airport. The discovery of oil and gas fields in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and their development required significant changes in the development of air transportation in the region.

The decision to build a new airport in the upland of Khanty-Mansiysk was taken in 1967.

In 1973 the airport "Khanty-Mansiysk" was put into operation.

In the early 90s the Administration of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug made a decision to reconstruct the airport.

In February 1994 due to the reorganization of the airline in Khanty-Mansiysk, JSC Yugravavia was established and performed all the necessary functions to support the activities and operation of the international airport Khanty-Mansiysk, being the Airport Corporation.

The scope of JSC "Yugraavia"

  • a full range of ground airport and commercial aircraft servicing;
  • maintenance of domestic and international transport: movement and transfer of passengers and cargo;
  • aircraft maintenance;
  • operation, maintenance and repair of airport facilities;
  • supply of aircraft operators with fuel and lubricants;
  • ensuring aviation security, protecting aircraft and ground objects from unlawful interference;
  • emergency rescue flight support;
  • supply of a service range to passengers, including hotel accommodation and transfer, catering;
  • temporary storage services in a customs warehouse.

The main characteristics of the airfield

An artificial runway (runway) was accepted for operation in 1997.

The dimensions of the paved runway are 2800х45 m, (with reinforced shoulders, width is 60 m), asphalt concrete pavement, classification number PCN 38 / F / B / X / T.

The parking places are suitable for placing and servicing all types of received aircraft, equipped with power supply, and partly with stationary starting equipment.

The RW lighting system of high intensity (category 1) with all-round lights, a visual indication of the PAPI glide path (angle of the glide slope 3.0 degrees), linear approach lights from both landing courses with a length of 900 meters are installed at the airport.

The airfield is equipped with the surveillance radar and the following systems: ILS (landing system 90) for both RW headings, 2 NDB, DVOR / DME, and.

Weather information is provided using the Gis-Meteo MitraScanEks aerodrome meteorological station.

Technical aerodrome equipment and its compliance

To maintain the airfield, serve aircraft and provide flights in JSC Yugraavia there are special vehicles and facilities such as snow removal and other aerodrome vehicles, refuellers, passenger steps, shuttle buses, power supplies and start up facilities, de-icing vehicles, technical and commercial aircraft maintenance vehicles, fire engines and rescue team equipment, etc., which are produced by as well as foreign leading manufacturers.

The new air terminal of the original architectural design was opened in 2001. The passenger capacity is 300 passengers per hour (with the international sector). Also the terminal is equipped with modern technical facilities – X-Ray machines, telescopic walkways, elevators, inspection tools, baggage handling, information and security systems, communication facilities and etc. to ensure the advanced operation and the quality of passengers’ service.
All major airport processes are registered in the certification system of civil aviation in Russia.

The airfield Khanty-Mansiysk is certified by the Airport Administration of the Federal Agency for Air Transport. Certificate number 00062 is dated January 17, 2017 and valid until January 17, 2022.

Runway courses are magnetic bearings 238/58 degrees which are accepted for aircraft of ICAO category I at least.

Constant airport operation and high flight intensity are based not only on advanced and rapidly developing technologies, but also on professional training, adherence to Standard Operational Procedures, work experience of the airport staff. There are 500 people of highly qualified civil aviation specialists of various professions.

The Airport development

In 2004 the stationary cargo - passenger checkpoint of the State Border of the Russian Federation with a VIP lounge was opened in the airport.

The aerobatic demonstration team “Russian Knights” led by guard commander Colonel Igor V. Tkachenko arrived at Khanty-Mansiysk airport in 2007. The performance of the group made an incredible impression on the residents and guests of the city.

The Departure Control System "Astra" allowing passengers to use electronic tickets for check-in was introduced in 2008.

In December 2008 the reconstruction of the airport began including first the widening of the passenger apron and the construction of a helipad.

In 2008 and 2010, the aircraft with the President of the Russian Federation arrived at Khanty-Mansiysk Airport twice.

In September - October 2010, a great work in the movement and transfer of a large number of participants was done during the World Chess Olympiad.

In March 2011, the Biathlon World Championship was held in Khanty-Mansiysk. Khanty-Mansiysk Airport provided arrivals and departures of aircraft carrying the athletes and guests of the championship.

In 2003 Khanty-Mansiysk Airport became the winner in the nomination “Intensively Developing Airport of the CIS” according to the results of “the Best Airport of the CIS countries in 2002” competition held by the Airport Association of Civil Aviation.
